Visit to Cyclone Ockhi Affected Areas
Cyclone Ockhi crossed the sea near Kanyakumari, the southern tip of mainland India, on November 29th 2017, and as a result it caused heavy human loss, and destruction in the southernmost districts of Kerala, particularly in Trivandrum District of Kerala.
Whipped up by cyclonic storm Ockhi lurking off the coast, heavy rain and gale-force winds have pummelled the southern parts of the Kerala State specially in Trivandrum district have bought normal life to a halt. Squally winds uprooted hundreds of trees, snapped power and communication lines, toppled hoardings, destroyed houses and damaged crops across the southern districts The Air Force and Navy deployed aircraft, helicopters and ships to search and rescue nearly 400 fishermen reported missing after setting out to sea from Thiruvananthapuram. The district administration began preparing to evacuate families from the vulnerable areas along the coast.

St. Vincent De Paul Society, Sacred Heart Conference, Nanthencode visited one Ockhi
affected family in Pallom on 18
th May, 2018 and provided a new sewing machine for
the family of Mr. Selvaj who is missing since Ockhi Cycolne. Selvaj’s family consists
of Anitha (wife) Renjini class X, Regitha class X and Jennifer class IX and all of them
are daughters of Selvaj. Due financial constraint the Renjini & Regitha have stopped
studying and they have decided to go for tailoring class in the Parish. The younger
daughter studies well and she has passed the IX class.

Visit to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Fatimapuram

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to shepherd children on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on May 13th until October 13th. This year we are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. On 26th January, 2017 St. Vincent De Paul Society, Sacred Heart Conference, Nanthencode visited Our Lady of Fatima Church in Fatimapuram. 30 economically backward families in the Parish were provided Food and relief materials costing Rs.15,000/- The function was conducted under the leadership of Rev Fr Lawerence Lukas, Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima Church in Fatimapuram.
