36th Anniversary Celebrations


The Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Trivandrum Central Council celebrated the 36th Anniversary Celebrations on the 22nd of May, 2009.  A detailed report as given below:
           The morning session started at 10 AM with a Prayer by Sr. Candy Paulose and Br. Austin Gomez welcomed the gathering and a Spiritual Class was conducted from 10.30 to 11.15 PM by Rev. Fr. Shaji Silva (Secretary to Arch Bishop of Trivandrum Diocese) and the second class was conducted from 11.20 AM to 12.45 PM by Br. Clarence, Project Officer Kerala Region and after lunch The President of Trivandrum Central Council, Br. A Don Bosco addressed the Conference Presidents in Trivandrum Central Council and he gave a patient hearing about problems of a few conferences and by 2.45 PM the session ended.

Rice Distribution to the Needy Persons

At Edayar Church , Near Poonthura (23-3-2009)

Edayar is situated in the outskirts of Trivandrum District which is nearly 5 kms away from Trivandrum International Airport . The inmates live by the traditional method of fishing. They use the traditional catamaran fishing boat and most often they are exploited by the middle men. Before they go for fishing they need food, kerosene and other essential utensils items and these things are borrowed from the nearest petty shops. And since the men are away from their huts for nearly 4 to 7 days the women folks again borrows the essential rice and other items hoping to repay the loan as soon as their husbands return from the sea.

Missionaries of Charity Kochuthura, TVM (15-3-09)


This institution is run by Missionaries of Charity of Mother Theresa. 12 members of Sacred Heart Conference Nanthencode, and St. Thomas Family Unit of our Parish visited this institution around 3.15 PM on Sunday, 15th of March, 2009. The conference members along St. Thomas BCC Unit spent for nearly one and a half hour with the inmates present there. The following item were supplied to institution in connection with the visit. Bed sheets / Bar soap / Soap powder / Dettol / Green gram / Bath soap / Clothes / Oranges etc.

Intersession Prayer card of St. Vincent De Paul were distributed to all the inmates. Some photos taken on the occasion is enclosed.

Bible Examination in Connection With 175 Years Celebrations of SSVP


A Bible examination based on the Gospel according to St. Luke, Life History of St. Vincent De Paul & Freddic Ozanam was conducted by Sacred Heart Conference, Nanthencode for students of class IX to Post graduate level on 28-06-2009 and winners were suitable rewarded with cash prizes.

The 37th Annual Meeting and the 350th Death Anniversary meeting of St. Vincent de Paul was held at St. Antony’s Forane Church , Valiyathura on 5th November, 2010. The function started with an 1 hour Adoration in St. Antony’s Forane Church , Valiyathura and thereafter an exhibition in connection with 350th Death Anniversary was held at Parish Hall. The exhibition was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. George Gomez, Spiritual Director, St. Vincent De Paul Society Trivandrum Central Council.

Activities Took Place Under Trivandrum Area Council


15 families were selected with the help of Local Conference Presidents of Puthiya Thora Area Council of St. Vincent De Paul Society. This is a very remote area which is situated in the our skirts of Trivandrum District. This marks the beginning of our new programme to help the most needy persons who don’t have a single meal a day. We intent to club this programme along with our normal weekly visits. This idea was given non other than by Our Most Rev. Dr. M. Soosaipakiam, Latin Arch Bishop of Trivandrum Arch Diocese.

After a small introduction 5 kg of rice, one lungi, washing & bath soap were distributed to the 15 families present there. Intersession Prayer card of St. Vincent De Paul were distributed to all the local conference members and others present there. Some photos taken on the occasion is enclosed.

Details of Activities from 1-1-2009 to 31-3-2009


The Board and Central Council meetings of Trivandrum Central Council are held and decisions are taken regularly. On 8-1-09, 50 economically backward women of St. Joseph Conference Santhipuram and Marianad conferences under Trivandrum Central Council were given fish vending loans by Rev. Fr. Syrus Kalathil. “Jeevanum Velichavum”, the monthly magazine of the Trivandrum Arch Diocese, is given to each conference.

On 15-2-09 a new office was inaugurated by Jai Hind TV Chairman Vijayan Thomas in St. Mathews Conference, South Kollemcode . Rev. Fr. Laser Benedict was also present in this function. On 22-2-09, members of conferences under Puthiathura Area Council conducted a one-day seminar. Rev. Fr. Aneesh Fernandez, Trivandrum Central Council President Br. Don Bosco took classes.

Examination in Connection with 175 Years Celebrations of SSVP


In connection with 175 years Celebration of formation of SSVP we also sponsored a written examination to all pupils studying under Trivandrum Central Council with the active assistance of Sacred Heart Conference, Nanthencode, Trivandrum . The examination target group was between Students of VIII to Degree level. (Std VIII to X – Group I & Std XI to Degree – Group II) Nearly 100 students in both the groups from all over Trivandrum District participated in the examination at 3 examination Centres. ie St. Annes Forane Church, Pettah / Ozanam Karunya Bhavan Azhakulam and H S S, E.P. Thura.

175th Year Celebrations of Formation of SSVP


The 175th years Celebrations of formation of St. Vincent De Paul Society, was organized at Christu Raja Animation Centre, Kovalam, Trivandrum on 5th of October 2008. The function started after a Holy Mass at 9.30 AM and 10.15 hrs a talk was given by Dr. P.V. George, National Project officer and 11.15 to 11.35 on Projects. Rev. Fr. George Gomez, Forane Vicar gave talk on “How to help the poor and how the SSVP members should co-operate”, and from 12.15 hrs Br. C.C. James (Kerala Co-ordination Committee Secretary, SSVP) explained the basic activities of SSVP. The public function started at 2.30 hrs and was attended by the following Spiritual Heads of Church & other National Council & Central Council Office Bearers / Personalities etc.

New Conferences in Trivandrum Central Council


  1. A new Conference, named St. Thomas Conference, Anjengo was formed under Attingal Area Conference. The Conference was formed in the presence of Rev. Fr. Joseph Bastin, Parish Priest of St. Antonys Forane Church, Anjengo.
  2. Another new Conference was formed named St. Francis Xavier’s Conference. The Conference was formed in the presence Ref. Fr. Cleetus Gomez, Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Church, Valiya Veli under Vettucaud Area Conference. Fathima Matha Kazhakuttom, St. Teresa’s Nettayam, St. Jude’s, St. Xavier’s Valiathura, St. Martin Kachani, St. Rosalia Pallithura.

Recent Activities of Trivandrum Central Council


The Governing body of Trivandrum Central Council elected Br. Don Bosco as the new President of Trivandrum Central Council on 18th July, 2008. Br. R. Zacharias and Br. Joosa Fernandez was nominated as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. After the nomination of the new office bearers the Trivandrum Central Council under the leadership of Br. Don Bosco visited Valiathura, Karumkulam and Vallavila Area Councils which consists of 33 Conferences and gave proper guidance to the concerned Conference office bearers regarding Projects, Twinage Accounts, proper unkeep of records and Reports and proper instructions and advice was given wherever deemed necessary.

T.B. Patients Rehabilitation Centre at Azhakulam

OZANAM KARUNYA BHAVAN

Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Trivandrum Central Council has started a Project for the rehabilitation of T.B. Patients who have been cured of the disease and have passed the contagious stage. For this purpose we have constructed a building at Azhakulam near Kovalam, Trivandrum with all supporting facilities. The Project named ‘OZANAM KARUNYA BHAVAN’ was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Soosa Packiyam the Bishop of Trivandrum of August 27, 2000. The institution has been recognized by the Government of Kerala. Now 24 inmates staying at our Ozanam Karunya Bhavan. Their medicine food and clothes and whole item give to them by our Central Council. We are used to collect local collection for their purpose. We are posted a caretaker and one cook and we give them salary two thousand and one thousand five hundred similarly.
